The Engineering Process

The Project Brief & Challenge

“The Add App” operates as a comprehensive digital business directory, designed to help consumers instantly discover localized deals, discounts, and promotional offers from major brands and retailers. To support this fast-paced ecosystem, the platform required a highly scalable, enterprise-grade architecture. The administrative team needed the familiar and intuitive interface of a traditional WordPress backend to easily manage fast-moving digital content and brand partnerships. However, standard WordPress theme rendering was entirely too heavy and restrictive to support a high-performance, native mobile app experience. The primary engineering challenge was to completely sever the frontend presentation layer from the backend database, ensuring lightning-fast data delivery without sacrificing the client’s content management capabilities.

The Backend Execution & API Strategy

Our core responsibility was to architect and build the foundational data layer and server infrastructure from the ground up. Instead of relying on pre-packaged, bloated REST routes, we stripped away the conventional WordPress frontend ecosystem to drastically reduce server CPU overhead. We configured the platform to operate strictly as a Headless CMS (Content Management System), establishing a fully decoupled architecture.

We mapped out complex relational data structures tailored for a business directory—engineering custom post types for retailers, hierarchical taxonomies for deal categories, and specialized metadata fields for time-sensitive promotions. From there, we developed clean, highly secure, and strictly typed custom API endpoints. This targeted approach guaranteed that the frontend application developers could query exactly the JSON data payloads they needed—in milliseconds—bypassing the redundant code typically associated with legacy monolithic content management systems.
