The Engineering & Architecture Process

The Project Brief & Multisite Challenge

The client operates two distinct premium vacation rental properties, Dat Ferienhus Norddeich and Dat Fleetenkiekerhus, each with its own brand and domain. The core requirement was to provide a seamless user experience while eliminating the operational nightmare of managing two independent, fragmented backends. We needed a centralized “Source of Truth” for availability, pricing, and property data, while keeping the public-facing sites distinct and brand-compliant. The engineering goal was to create a unified Multisite WordPress network where a single update in the central database propagates across both domains in real-time.

API Orchestration & Data Synchronization

We implemented a robust API-first strategy. By connecting the WordPress network to a centralized rental management platform, we established a single source of truth for all bookings. I engineered a custom API integration layer that continuously polls property inventory, availability calendars, and dynamic pricing structures. This data is then normalized within the WordPress database, allowing us to display live, up-to-the-minute availability on both websites without conflicting double-bookings.

Custom Development & Booking Flow

Beyond the data sync, the frontend booking experience needed to be frictionless. We utilized WooCommerce to handle the transactional side of the rentals. I customized the WooCommerce core to support specific vacation rental constraints: minimum stay requirements, seasonal check-in/check-out rules, and complex pricing tiers. By building a custom search interface that queries our local cached API data, guests can browse properties across the entire Multisite network with sub-second performance, drastically increasing conversion rates.

The Final Outcome

The implementation provided the client with a professional-grade, scalable rental management platform. They can now update property descriptions, adjust rates, or block dates in one place, and the changes are immediately reflected across both domains. The architecture is future-proof, allowing the client to add new properties or domains to the network with minimal configuration, fully automating the technical side of their vacation rental business.
